Generic Zovirax is an antiviral (antiherpetic) agent for topical use – a synthetic analogue of thymidine nucleoside, which is a natural component of DNA. In infected cells containing viral thymidine kinase, phosphorylation occurs and monophosphate is converted to Acyclovir. Under the influence of Generic Zovirax guanylate cyclase, monophosphate is converted into diphosphate and under the action of several cellular enzymes into triphosphate. The high selectivity of action and low toxicity for humans are due to the lack of the necessary enzyme for the formation of Acyclovir triphosphate in intact cells of the microorganism.
Indications for use Generic Zovirax:
- Herpes simplex skin;
- Genital herpes (primary and recurrent);
- Localized herpes zoster (adjuvant treatment);
- Chickenpox.
Generic Zovirax is applied to the affected areas 5-6 times a day (as early as possible after the start of infection) at regular intervals. It is important to start treatment for a recurrent infection during the prodromal phase or at the very beginning of infection. Therapy should be continued until the crust forms on the vesicles, or until they fully heal. Duration of treatment is at least 5 days, maximum 10 days.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity to Acyclovir or valacyclovir or any other component of the drug.
