Megamentin 375 is a semisynthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic that has activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. At the same time, Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation by β-lactamases, and therefore the spectrum of the substance’s activity does not extend to microorganisms that produce this enzyme.
Indications for using Megamentin 375, caused by susceptible microorganisms:
- Infections of the upper respiratory tract and upper respiratory tract;
- Infections of the lower respiratory tract;
- Infections of the urogenital tract: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, infections of the female genital organs;
- Gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae;
- Infections of the skin and soft tissues;
- Infections of bones and joints;
- Odontogenic infections;
- Other mixed infections as part of staged therapy.
The drug is taken orally and the dosage regimen is set individually depending on the age, body weight, renal function of the patient, as well as the severity of the infection. For optimal absorption and reduction of possible side effects from the digestive system, Megamentin 375 is recommended to be taken at the beginning of a meal. The minimum cycle of antibiotic therapy is 5 days. Treatment should not last more than 14 days.
Before starting a treatment using Megamentin 375, a detailed history should be collected regarding previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin, cephalosporins, or other substances that cause an allergic reaction in a patient.
The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years old and with body weight less than 80 pounds.
